The early morning hours of June 4th, 2018 marked a historic frost event in Nova
Scotia, the severity and impact of which varied greatly across the Annapolis Valley.
Nestled on the shores of the Habitant estuary, our private 10-acre Kingsport vineyard benefited greatly from its proximity to the Bay of Fundy and its natural moderating effect.
As a result of this vineyard’s position, the oldest 20-year planting of Cabernet Franc vines in the province were greatly spared, yet the yields were much lower. With this reduced crop came the potential for extraordinary concentration and maturity, so the winemakers at Benjamin Bridge sought a way to complement these superior and certified-organic grapes to craft several hundred cases for a commercial release.

They found an exceptional one-vintage answer in the ultra-premium Cabernet Franc located in Niagara’s renowned Twenty Mile Bench appellation. Grown on unique soils rich in limestone, the winemaking team walked various sites in the late fall of ’18 on their quest to find the best compliment. In October, a carefully-selected parcel of grapes was hand-harvested and then brought overnight to Benjamin Bridge to receive an artisan treatment reserved for their best parcels.

With the wine undergoing a wild fermentation, this blend’s own terroir-driven identity emerged. In this case, the indigenous fermentation slowed down near the end, leaving a trace of natural sweetness perfectly complementing the energy and brightness of our maritime Cabernet Franc.

“In the glass, a light salmon colour with a magenta hue. On the nose,
suggestions of gooseberry preserve and red currant are accentuated by
touches of flint and lime. The palate is lively and brisk with
suggestions of blood orange and Mcintosh apples enhanced by traces
of sea salt. A tonic, stimulating rosé that strikes a perfect balance
between zesty acidity and a deeply layered texture.”
Great with grilled vegetables on the BBQ, chicken or beef kebabs, and
other middle eastern grilled fares.
