Mercator Reserve Marquette 2016
This product is currently sold out.
Mercator Vineyards is a 40-acre site, situated on a bluff directly overlooking the Acadian Dykelands. It is influenced by the nearby Minas Basin, with its rising and falling tides. Immense volumes of relatively cold water move in and out of the Basin on a daily basis, bringing with it cool breezes that help keep Mercator's vineyards cool, our grapes healthy and to help in the retention of aromatics and acidity that develop in the grapes throughout the growing season.
Marquette expresses itself in the family of dark fruits – such as dried blueberries, black currants, figs and blackberries.
Similarly, in the mouth, a weight of fruitiness combined with richness and viscosity gives length and breadth to the taste. Full and satisfying.
This first release of Reserve Marquette comes from the newly planted River Vineyard in the Gaspereau Valley. Marquette is a relatively newly developed variety containing the famous variety Pinot Noir which holds promise in Nova Scotia’s unique cool climate and terroir, giving a medium bodied wine with a pleasing dimension in aromas and mouthfeel. To further enhance these characteristics, a proportion of the blend is made from grapes which have been partially dried and then are added back to the fermentation. This is a
technique as old as winemaking itself and still used today in the wine producing countries of the Mediterranean.
