Benjamin Bridge Small Lot Cabernet Franc Rosé 2017

This limited cuvée marks the transition to organic practices for a trailblazing parcel of Cabernet Franc planted along the Bay of Fundy at the turn of the millennium. This planting was a first of its kind in Nova Scotia and became part of the Benjamin Bridge estate in 2015. Under the guidance of head viticulturist, Scott Savoy, (himself a Cabernet Franc erudite), the last two years of soil work has brought unprecedented life to the block, thanks to a thriving and lively ecosystem surrounding the plants, one of Scott’s core principles.
To support such meaningful work, the winemaking path that ensued was proportionally natural, with a wild fermentation and the absence of any additions at any stages, including no sulphites. The result is a textbook natural wine with living qualities channeling the organic vivacity of the plants and their immediate ecosystem. Concrete was elected as the medium of choice for fermentation and aging, given its propensity to add additional softness and a rounder texture, two desired qualities given the vibrant acidity found in cool climate Cabernet Franc. The egg shape of the concrete vessels helped the wine slowly journey to dryness, and even supported a full (and natural) malolactic fermentation. Unfiltered and deliciously raw, expect sediments and turbidity (cloudiness) as signs of this wine’s inherent quality.
TASTING NOTES “In the glass, a classic, salmon pink hue. On the nose, a floral bouquet of white rose is enhanced by hints of dried apricots and cassis. The palate is well rounded, with a juxtaposition of zesty tension and a surprising level of weight and substance. Suggestions of blackberry and black cherry are complemented by a round finish and ever lingering mineral nuances.”
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS Serve chilled as a summer sipper or pair with a range of BBQ options, such as chicken or pork kebabs.
